2026 Trunk Shows and Classes

Wednesday, March 18, 2026-
Trunk show at the Harman Center with Lynwood instructor, Lisa Mortell.

Lisa’s Quilting Journey – From Beginnings to Wool-Embellished Art Quilts

Join Lisa as she shares the inspiring story of how she discovered quilting, the evolution of her craft, and her deepening love for wool-embellished art quilts. In this engaging presentation, Lisa will walk you through the basics of creating wool-embellished quilts and share insights from her personal quilting journey.

Throughout the trunk show, Lisa will showcase many of her beautiful quilts, each one telling its own unique story. She’ll also leave plenty of time for questions, so feel free to ask about anything related to quilting or her creative process.

Lisa hails from NW Washington and in 2010 discovered her passion for quilting through a Kaffe Fassett book. By the time she completed her first quilt, she was completely hooked. Over the past 16 years, her quilting journey has evolved significantly with a deepening love for hand appliqué, with embroidery taking center stage.

Lisa began teaching quilting techniques about six years ago, m including wool appliqué, needle-turn appliqué, paper piecing, and general quilting. She launched her wool appliqué patters in 2024. Her recent works draw inspiration from the natural beauty of her Pacific Northwest roots, particularly the greater Seattle area. Notably, in November 2024, Lisa's quilt Garden Friends was displayed at the prestigious 2024 Houston International Quilt Festival and won 2nd place at Road to California. Her most current work Nataliya will be at the 2025 Houston International Quilt Festival.

Hand
Appliqué class with Lynwood instructor, Lisa Mortell.

Lisa's one-day classes focus on the fundamentals of Embellished Wool Appliqué. Each session is designed to provide students with the skills needed to start their projects in the classroom, with the knowledge to confidently complete them at home. All one-day classes include a minimum of six hours of hands-on instruction.

We need your input! Which project we should do? Look over the designs HERE and come ready to vote at our January meeting for which of wool appliqué design project you love the best! This will give Lisa time to put the kits together for us.

The class fee will be $65. There is a fee for the kit if you don't have your own fabrics to use. The kit includes all the thread for the decorations. Cost for the kit will be $50-52, depending on which design we choose. If you have your own supplies, you would only need to purchase the pattern.

Contact Mary Whitney for any other questions you might have.

*Sign-ups for the class will be posted as soon as details are confirmed.
